APPLICATION PROCESS

As a full-service next-generation missions agency, our application, assessment and training process takes some time. You’ll want to read carefully and plan ahead. Here’s what to expect:

Note: it’s not uncommon for applicants to unintentionally delay their own process by not carefully reading ahead and submitting all requirements. Read about critical dates.. We care about each missionary’s success, so we encourage you to approach our process with a detailed eye. And feel free to contact us—we’d love to help.

US Missionaries and Church Planters (Full & Part Time)

  1. Apply. Complete the GCM application and assessment process. (4-6 weeks)

    1. Submit GCM Application. Include all required essays and signature pages.
    2. Pay Application Fee ($35 for standard US fulltime staff). Other fees apply to international staff.
    3. Ensure all third party Reference Forms, including church and spouse references (if applicable) are completed and promptly submitted.
    4. Submit all applicable education transcripts and required authorization for background check.
    5. Complete Confidential Moral Character Assessment and review with local pastor or supervisor.
    6. Interview with a GCM assessor on the phone or Skype.
    7. Allow GCM to complete assessment and confer with your local church or ministry to review and confirm.
    8. Wait for notification of decision.
    9. Once provisionally accepted, you may register for any available 8-day New Staff Training for the year.

  2. Training. Attend the next available 8-day GCM New Staff Training. These are offered 3-4 times a year, and are most often held in Orlando FL.

  3. Initial MTD Phase. Fulltime focus on MTD/fundraising. Missionaries devote their full attention to raising up the ministry team of donors until they’ve reached a 100% funding level.

  4. Release to Assignment. On reaching a 100% funding level of the recurring monthly support goal, a missionary is “Released to Assignment” and GCM records them as transitioning to their fulltime ministry job description with their local church, church plant, or ministry. Provisional Acceptance is complete.

  5. Field Ministry & MTD. Work in fulltime ministry, while devoting about 10-20% of weekly time to cultivating and developing new partners.


International Candidates

(additional 4-6 weeks)

Candidates not serving in the United States must complete additional steps in the application process, including psychological testing with International Personnel Consultants, prior to being scheduled for an interview with GCM. Additional costs apply.

As candidates near the end of their fundraising phase, they will be required to attend additional training for language and cultural success in their overseas assignment. We partner with Mission Training International.


Summer Internship Candidates

  1. Apply (3-4 weeks)
    1. Complete an initial interview with a local pastor or ministry supervisor
    2. Submit GCM application, including references and signature page
    3. Pay application fee
    4. GCM completes assessment and consults with your local church or ministry to review and confirm.
    5. Wait for notification of decision.
  2. Register for Summer Intern Training (typically held in January or February)
  3. Initial MTD Phase. Raise financial support while completing Spring Semester classes.
  4. Support Goal Check. GCM checks the ministry account to see if enough funding has arrived for your summer internship.
  5. Summer Internship!


GCM reserves the right to perform additional steps in the screening process when deemed appropriate and necessary. All timeframes are estimates.
